Alistair Digges

Alistair Digges was born in Glasgow (1982) and received his early musical training as a boy treble and frequent soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus, and as a horn player in the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. He studied singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Stevenson Scholarship) before moving to the Royal College of Music (Robertson, MBF and Sir James Caird Scholarships) where he currently learns under Michel Vallat. At the RCM, he was the 2006 winner of the Knights of the Round Table Prize and was awarded the Sir John Ackroyd scholarship to the Benjamin Britten International Opera School.

Whilst studying in Scotland, Alistair was a principle choral scholar at Glasgow Cathedral, where he also gave his first performances as an oratorio soloist with the Cathedral Choral Society.

His extensive experience as an oratorio soloist includes performances of Handel's Messiah (Doncaster), Stainer's Crucifixion (York Minster, Philip Moore), Mendelssohn's Elijah (Aberdeen International Choral Festival), Britten's St Nicolas (Glasgow University), Mozart's Requiem (Paisley and Buckie), Haydn's Creation (Edinburgh Singers, Greyfriars Kirk), Rossini's Messe Solennelle (Melrose), Scarlatti's Stabat Mater & Liszt's Missa Choralis (Stephen Cleobury, Cumbria Rural Choirs), Handel's Israel in Egypt (Carlisle Cathedral and St Mary's Cathedral Edinburgh), Haydn's Stabat Mater & The Seasons (Glasgow Cathedral) and Monteverdi Vespers (Eton chapel for the Rudolfus Choir and Truro Cathedral).   He most recently gave performances in France of Mozart's Requiem (Nuits musicales en Vendee romane), Supeé's Requiem and Bach's Magnificat all under the direction of Alain Charron.   In Scotland, he performed with the City of Glasgow Chorus with whom he is returning to sing Bach's B Minor Mass in March 2008 (Glasgow City Halls).

On stage Alistair has played the roles of Nemorino in L'elesir d'amore for Opera South, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte ( The Magic Flute) for Dartington Festival Opera (GAM London LTD), Dumain in Loves Labours Lost (Opera da Camera Linz, Austria), Arnalta in L'Incoronazione di Poppea and La Théière in L'enfant et les Sortilèges at the RCM, and Snout in A Midsummer Nights Dream and Soldato and Famigliari in L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the RSAMD.   He has performed in the Urbania and Novafeltria (Italy) Opera Festivals, for Opera on a Shoestring (Viennese series), and has sung in various opera galas, most recently in France.
